Various initiatives organized by the volunteers of the Salim Community Center of the Noor Association for Relief and Development in As-Suwayda Governorate, in cooperation with the United Nations Population Fund, as part of the 16-day campaign against gender-based violence.

The initiatives implemented under the supervision of the Directorate of Social Affairs and Labor were carried out according to the statement of the center’s director, Sulaf Salim, to the SANA correspondent, based on proposals that were submitted during the last period, studied and approved for implementation, as these initiatives carry messages that serve the goals of the campaign, which targeted more than 200 adolescent girls and women.

The first initiative came under the title (Let's End Violence in a New Color), and it was organized by the psychological support team at the center with the participation of female students from the Institute of Fine Arts. According to Salim, it included an introduction to the campaign, its objectives and slogan, and the distribution of messages to the students in this regard. The female students participating in the campaign drew paintings in which they expressed their rejection. Any kind of violence against women.

The second initiative was titled "Girl from Light", as Salim explained, about training young girls in the skill of self-defense as one of their rights, to be able to confront any harassment they may face in the street, means of transportation, etc., and to overcome beliefs that they are the weaker sex.

According to Salim, an initiative was organized to decorate the center and the road leading to it from one of the village squares with balloons and banners containing phrases against violence against women, with orange and purple arrows drawn to guide those coming to the center and their easy access to it. Messages were also distributed to passers-by containing the goals and slogans of the campaign, in addition to brochures. To introduce the services of the center.

The mobile psychological support team at the center also implemented, in partnership with representatives of local associations, the beginning project of the (Carnival of Light) initiative, to combat gender-based violence. According to the director of the center, it included launching a wooden train from the Al-Anqoud roundabout in the city of As-Suwayda, passing through many squares and raising banners containing phrases against violence. based on gender and clarify the meaning of the campaign.

With the participation of the local community, the (mobile theater cart) initiative was launched, where Salim explained that the initiative focused on presenting a theatrical activity to convey the image of violence against girls, with a musical show symbolizing the rejection of violence in all its forms, and a painting of folklore indicating the importance of participation between men and women. In addition to showing gymnastic movements for a talent with Down syndrome.

The center also worked on organizing an initiative entitled (Message Against Violence), which consisted of recording an audio interview on Al-Karma Radio in As-Suwayda to introduce the campaign and its objectives, and the Nour Association for Relief and Development, its services, goals, programs and centers in all governorates.

The psychological counselor at the center, Rima Kerbaj, explained that the psychological support staff at the center adopted the initiatives that targeted women and adolescent girls based on a mechanism based on monitoring cases of violence during the last period, and in a way that serves the achievement of the goals of the campaign at the same time.

While one of the beneficiaries of the initiatives, Catherine Al-Hamdan, stated that she participated in the (Mobile Theater Cart) and (Girl of Light) initiatives, and benefited from them with important messages for parents to protect their daughters from early marriage, enhance their education, and teach them how to defend themselves to face what they are exposed to.
