Natural hot water and a heat pump.

New Aquitaine, the second geothermal source in France, continues to invest to equip its high schools.

Objective: to maximize their carbon-free energy supply.... And above all, to save money.

The technique consists of recovering calories from underground sources for heating.

Drawn from less than a hundred meters underground, the water is treated and “raised by a few degrees” before being released (without any other modification than its change in temperature) in the same furrow below.

"

The results are spectacular, we have divided by three or four the cost of our energy bills in these establishments

", rejoices Alain Rousset, the president of the regional council.

With the rise in the price of gas and electricity, the investments already made in 9 high schools will pay for themselves within six years, according to Philippe Mittet, deputy director general of the regional education centre.

Yet they number in the millions.

Presented this Wednesday, December 7, the provisional investment program (PPI) 2022-2028 is studying the question for the remaining 90% of the 296 secondary school groups capable of carrying out this change.

Thirteen of them are the subject of work or studies with a view to transformation.

Of the 1.3 billion euros that will be invested in education during this mandate, 126 million will thus be allocated to the ecological and energy transition of buildings.

New Aquitaine soon to be a building flagship?

A policy in application of the Neo Terra roadmap adopted by New Aquitaine on July 9, 2019. To meet its objectives

of "citizen engagement and agro-ecological transition

", this provisional budget also plans to devote 36 million euros to the farms of the regional agricultural colleges.

The withdrawal of synthetic pesticides, animal welfare and sustainable food

” are thus noted in the order of priorities.

Another major project: the region would like to invest massively (46 million euros, all expenses combined) in the restoration of the Felletin building trades high school (Creuse).

Flagship of French heritage craftsmanship in masonry, the area labeled Talent and Territory of New Aquitaine (Ttna), is set to become "

the national reference in terms of building training and eco-construction

".

This PPI must be presented and voted on by the plenary assembly of the Regional Council of New Aquitaine on December 15th.
