There are decisions whose consequences become clear only after a while, whose original intention has reversed and turned into an unexpected boomerang.
The last week was accompanied by countless words from the field of "storm" and "crisis", which were attached to the move in which MK Avi Maoz took over the responsibility for the external programs that enter all of our children's classrooms.
But the hysteria surrounding Maoz is only the end of a process, the tip of an iceberg, which began with a decision made by education ministers from the left.
Especially the former Minister of Education Yuli Tamir, who more than a decade ago expanded the possibility for external parties to enter the schools to allow a foothold there for those who share her worldview, and caused a butterfly effect that ended this week - with the apocalyptic calls of dissension around the designated Deputy Minister Maoz.
Even before Tamir, committees were established and discussions were held in order to regulate and determine the fields of enrichment in schools, mainly in the field of Judaism, but Tamir decided to expand the option in order to introduce the reform movement into the education system.
She did not hide her intention, and publicly called on reformers to take advantage of her tenure to "drive a stake" in the education system.
One may like Tamir's decision in 2007, one may not, but the action was within her authority and for the purpose of promoting goals in the name of which she was elected, thereby determining the ability of another politician to also determine, at his discretion, which programs, organizations and figures the students of Israel will meet.
And therein lies the problem.
Politicians are interested in introducing their worldviews into schools.
Not in promoting education and not in expanding opinion, but in spreading a world view.
This is exactly the reason why the authority of politicians to decide what is the right education and who will shape the children's world view must be reduced.
The minister or deputy minister from his seat in the office replaces the judgment of the parents, the dialogue with the school management and the right of each parent to determine what their children will be exposed to and why not - in exchange for narrow political interests that are the result of momentary political power, sometimes from the left and sometimes from the right.
Tamir's experiment failed twice.
Once in that the reform plans offered to the school principals were in low demand, and the decision that was supposed to increase the influence of the reformers actually caused the flourishing of Orthodox associations, mainly from religious Zionism.
Then Bennett, who was the Minister of Education at the time, was accused of brainwashing young children through National Service girls - just as Maoz is accused today.
And a second time, in that the power that Tamir and others sought for themselves went to someone they would not have dreamed of entrusting this power to.
"Frankenstein's monster" which was born to introduce students to the reformers in 2007, has become a puppet from Prague that wants to introduce students to the teachings of Avi Maoz in 2022.
The hypocrisy is clear, but the failure is equally clear.
The curricula and government moves in the field of education should be as free as possible of political considerations and agenda, and belong exclusively to parents and administrators.
Alternatively, it is possible to introduce the phrase "the end of the act with the first thought" into the curriculum of the politicians.
