Relaxation on palm trees, oil in the cellar

Starting this weekend, visitors to the thermal baths can relax at a height of four meters – for a surcharge.

"Under the palm trees" - that sounds like a luxury holiday in the South Pacific.
In the thermal baths, which like to call themselves the Bavarian South Seas, you can relax on palm trees from this weekend.
Erding - Of course, you don't have to scramble up the trunks for this.
Rather, the thermal baths have added an additional level to the wave pool.
This counteracts a deficiency that causes trouble again and again, especially during peak times - there are then too few sunbathing areas.
But the additional areas are not a bargain, the visitor has to pay a surcharge of between 79 and 139 euros for one of the 16 islands, including drinks and for six people.
Initially, the visionary thermal bath owner Jörg Wund had in mind creating individual nests four meters high in the middle of the palm treetops. But the stairs would have taken up too much space, he admitted at the opening.
So he rescheduled and had an entire platform created behind the glass facade.
Wund reports that the installation was not entirely trivial.
It was even delayed by several months.
Because when the steel supports, which were concreted for fire protection reasons, were in place, it was too cold to crane the platform in individual parts through the open roof.
“Our palms would have frozen,” says Wund.
As always in the thermal baths, this project also has considerable dimensions.
It cost a good half a million euros.
3.8 kilometers of cable were laid and almost 10,000 screws installed.
The supports weigh 16 tons including the base plates.
2.3 tons of steel were used for the posts and handrails, along with 8.5 tons of safety glass and 350 meters of LED lighting.
Each of the 16 platforms weighs 1.8 tons.
This should only be the beginning, revealed Wund.
Because lying areas are also scarce in the sauna hall.
He now wants to transfer the concept there.
"But that's going to be more complicated because we can't set up a crane there." He wants to get started here from May.
Wund and his authorized officer Marcus Maier are happy that the pandemic with months of forced closure is over - and the guests are pouring in again.
"The hotel is always between 94 and 100 percent fully booked, but we are seeing a decline of between six and eight percent in the number of bathers," says Wund.
He is more concerned about the availability of gas, especially when the storage tanks are quickly emptied during a cold snap.
But locking up and switching off the heating is not an option for Wund: "Then several hundred palm trees would die." At the moment he is not planning any restrictions.
Nevertheless, he made provisions: "We had a large oil tank installed, connected and filled," says the owner - for another 500,000 euros.

Recently, there was not only the palm lounges to celebrate in the thermal baths.
The largest wellness landscape in the world has just won the Leading Spa Award 2022 - for the Hotel Victory.
According to the announcement, it is one of the most important spa awards and is the internationally recognized symbol for top-class wellness in Austria, Germany, Italy, Croatia and Holland.
The award is given only once a year, and only hotels in the 4-star superior category and above are awarded.
The entire concept including cuisine, infrastructure, service, applications and offers is evaluated.
The hotel has recently won several awards.
