The majority of the Weilheim building committee can imagine a three-storey car park opposite the high school.

The need is great, the location is right, it said in yesterday's meeting.

But there was also criticism: The Greens called the project "unimaginative" - and consider it the wrong sign.

Weilheim – The developer wants to create space for around 200 cars in a privately run multi-storey car park, which is to be built on the parking lot of the Mercedes car dealership between Röntgenstraße and Heseloherstraße, directly on the B2.

According to the building request, the applicant envisages four full floors above ground, which would result in a height of around 11.60 meters.

At best, one of the parking levels would be underground for him, because otherwise both the construction costs and the maintenance would be far too expensive.

District Office and Hospital GmbH have already registered a need

The multi-storey car park is to be used by surrounding companies and institutions.

According to the contractor, the district office has already registered a need for around 125 parking spaces (for high school and secondary school), and the hospital GmbH wants to use the same number of parking spaces.

Yesterday, nobody in the building committee of the Weilheim city council doubted that there was a need.

BfW and CSU in particular referred to “great parking pressure” in this district.

For BfW spokeswoman Brigitte Holeczek (“people come from outside by car because they often have no other way of getting there”), parking bans in adjacent streets that have often been parked up to now would be possible and necessary.

According to Marion Lunz-Schmieder (CSU), "in order to make progress with the cycling concept, the cars have to go somewhere".

"It looks like an industrial parking garage"

Mayor Markus Loth (BfW) said that the multi-storey car park would need four floors, but then one of the levels would have to go “into the ground”.

A four-storey above-ground building is also the supporters in the building committee "too massive" at this point.

However, a three-storey building was approved by a majority.

The fact that this is designed to be compatible should be ensured by drawing up a project-related development plan.

Because the current sketch of the building contractor envisages a green roof, but otherwise a "very simple design," explained Manfred Stork, head of the municipal building administration: "It looks like an industrial multi-storey car park."

The fact is that many people drive to work - and that's not going to change.

Weilheim Mayor Markus Loth (BfW)

The representatives of the ÖDP and the Greens also voted against a three-storey car park.

Gerd Ratter (ÖDP) pleaded for "mixed use", for example in combination with apartments: "You should really leave other options open." Luise Nowak: "You don't have to accept the first proposal right away," said the Green Party. councilwoman.

Her parliamentary colleague Alfred Honisch called the car park idea "unimaginative" and wanted the building contractor to have an alternative plan for "more sensible at this point".

Because Weilheim already has a problem with destination and source traffic - and an additional "covered offer for cars" attracts even more cars.

Mayor Loth countered this statement clearly: "With all the nice thoughts about cycling, the mobility concept and Trallala - the fact is that many people drive to work by car,

According to Horst Martin, there are also concerns in the SPD about "attracting more cars" with this plan.

However, he himself sees the advantage of avoiding traffic looking for a parking space and being able to follow up with parking bans, for example in the “horribly overcrowded Roentgenstrasse”.

Rupert Pentenrieder (BfW) thinks this space is simply “ideal” for a multi-storey car park: “It is now just a matter of making it compatible.” The city council is expected to decide on the preparation of a development plan in January.
