The long-established Gröbenzell sculptor Hannes Götz donated a special wooden bench to the St. Anton retirement home.

He wants to honor the great achievements of the church aid organization Caritas on their 100th birthday.

Gröbenzell – The Gröbenzell old people's home in St. Anton has two new flatmates: an old woman and an old man have moved in there, and this for the long term.

However, the two have not found a new home in the home, but on a wooden bench in front of it.

An entrance that was ceremonially honored with mulled wine, children's punch, gingerbread and numerous guests.

Deacon Roland Wittal from the Catholic Church of St. Johann Baptist also gave his blessing.

The long-established Gröbenzell sculptor Hannes Götz created the poplar wood seating figures for the home.

He calls it “experienced life”.

The bench is a gift on the occasion of the 100th birthday of the Catholic aid organization Caritas, as the artist emphasized at the inauguration of the work.

With his donation, he wants to recognize "the large and diverse charitable achievements" of the organization.

Caritas is the sponsor of the St. Anton home.

88-year-old Götz came to Gröbenzell at the age of five.

His parents built a house on Eschenrieder Strasse in 1939.

Götz raised four children here with his wife Edith.

He is now the grandfather of eleven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Götz is actually a stone sculptor and has mainly worked abroad, in Italy, Austria and Hungary.

But he was also active in the Brucker area.

He created the memorial for the terror victims of the 1972 Olympic Games in Fürstenfeldbruck.

There is also a sculpture path he donated in the Bürgerpark in his home town, which is intended to stimulate thought.

Götz now works mainly with wood.

"It's less time-consuming," he explains.

He also created the two figures in front of the retirement home out of poplar wood.

The bench on which the woman and the man sit and which deliberately leaves room for another person is made from a spruce tree.

The characters are very difficult.

With the help of the Repair Café staff, they were transported from Atelier Götz to Wildmoosstrasse.

His two sculptures in front of the old people's home convey a thoughtful impression, lost in thought with closed eyes, the man's head bent forward, they remember their lives, the artist explains.

"As you get older, you think more about the life you've experienced," Götz knows from his own experience.

"One draws his conclusions, can pass on his thoughts, tell beautiful things".

The two figures have already led to numerous conversations and discussions among residents, employees and visitors of the Gröbenzell old people's home.

This was reported by the director of the home, Susanne Uhl, during the inauguration ceremony.

"I don't see myself that way," said some, others were enthusiastic.

"As art is, some people like it and others don't," Uhl continues.
