New York City - The

Time

magazine from the USA announces the "Person of the Year" this Wednesday (December 7th).

The magazine had already published the shortlist of nominations on Monday.

Every year since 1927, the Polit-Magazin has chosen a person or institution that was classified as particularly influential in the respective year.

This year's nominations include not only obvious candidates but also a number of surprises.

With the Presidents Volodoymyr Zelenskyj (Ukraine) and Xi Jinping (People's Republic of China), there are two heads of state on Time magazine's shortlist for "Person of the Year" 2022. Xi Jinping appeared on the list of candidates in 2019, but the award was given at the time Environmental activist Greta Thunberg.

For Volodoymyr Zelenskyj it is the first nomination.

However, the head of state of Ukraine is likely to be one of the top favourites.

In the wake of the Ukraine conflict with Russia, Zelenskyj became the focus of reporting around the world.

Time magazine names "Person of the Year": Elon Musk again among the candidates

Also on Time magazine's nominee list is defending Person of the Year champion Elon Musk.

The Tesla founder and now Twitter owner earned the title of Person of the Year in 2021, making it the cover of Time magazine.

He was officially declared the richest person in the world last year.

His car company Tesla made big profits and Musk heralded a new era of space tourism with his company SpaceX.

Also among the nominees for Time magazine's 2022 Person of the Year award are three multi-person factions: the US Supreme Court, the protesters in Iran, and the Citizens' Movement for More Gun Control in the USA.

The Supreme Court came into focus after the nine judges questioned abortion rights in the United States.

In Iran, on the other hand, after the violent death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini, there were violent protests against the mullahs' regime that are still going on today and against which the security forces are proceeding with all brutality.

"Person of the Year 2022" - Three women among the nominees

Three women are also on Time magazine's 2022 Person of the Year list: Republican Liz Cheney, entrepreneur MacKenzie Scott and US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen.

Although Cheney lost her seat in the US House of Representatives in the midterm primaries, she remained in the public eye for her engagement against ex-President Donald Trump - Time Person of the Year 2016.

Scott, the ex-wife of Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, caused a sensation with her large donation of more than 120 million US dollars.

Yellen became America's first woman Treasury Secretary in 2021 in President Joe Biden's administration.

Biden himself was voted Person of the Year in 2020 along with Vice President Kamala Harris.
