Leipzig – Things are not going well for pop star Florian Silbereisen: First, the MDR had to postpone the hit show “Advent Festival of the 100,000 Lights” from Saturday to Friday because of the 2022 World Cup.

Then Ross Antony choked on the artificial snow on stage and as if that wasn't enough, the Passau native delivered the worst Advent show of all time.

The quota drama came with an announcement.

Weeks ago, the MDR already announced that the "Advent Festival of 100,000 Lights" will not be shown on TV as usual this time, but on Friday.

The show from Leipzig, in which hit star Anna-Carina Woitschack hardly got any airtime without Stefan Mross, was recorded weeks ago.

Overall, this year's show was the biggest ratings flop in the "Advent Festival" history.

Many Schlager fans were surprised about the new schedule, since the World Cup was shown on TV both on Friday and Saturday.

Broadcasting plans are very complex and have immense lead times - in the MDR as well as in the first and all other programs.

When a major event like the World Cup is coming up, many dates come together that have to be taken into account at the time of planning.

As a result, there may also be shifts in traditional broadcasting slots.

When the program was broadcast on Friday at 8:15 p.m., what was to be expected followed: The “Advent Festival of 100,000 Lights” fell to an all-time low.

With a total of 5.05 million viewers and a market share of 21.1 percent, the show is the winner of the day among the total audience, but cannot match previous figures.

Whether the new slot is to blame for the quota disaster for Florian Silbereisen is something that Schlager fans can puzzle over.
