Laguiole against Thiers: the cutlers from Aveyron and Auvergne certainly have close ties but there is no question of letting themselves be dispossessed of exclusivity.
And this time around, the rivalry has taken a new turn by moving into the legal arena.
By awarding the Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) of the Laguiole knife to the Couteau Laguiole Aubrac Auvergne association, whose headquarters are in Thiers in Puy-de-Dôme, the National Institute of Industrial Property (INPI) has triggered the anger of the Aveyronnais.
For the latter, it is a real snub that is inflicted on them and they denounce the dysfunctions of the IGPs.
Supported by local elected officials, the Syndicate of Aveyron manufacturers of the Laguiole knife filed a legal appeal against this decision at the end of October.
