The Complex Problem by Tom Stoppard is a play that presents insights into science, philosophy, transformed social situations, and the complex repercussions that afflict children after their parents abandon them with bad psychological conditions, in addition to social and humanitarian issues.
The play, which was translated by Muhammad Al-Abdullah, through its heroine, Hilary, a researcher in psychology, presents new insights into neuroscience and social relations that are based on maternal affection and defense of beliefs, and what the heroine of the play thinks of by abandoning her daughter.
The play published by the Arab Writers Union monitors the negative results that resulted from social gangs and the negatives of the computer, as it does not care about any loss during its use, in addition to the psychological states within each person of the play’s characters, which its author was able to move with impressive emotion.
Author Stoppard also raises the suffering experienced by people who are subjected to social isolation in a prison-like manner instead of living reasonably, and the contradictions facing human consciousness and the moral sense of individuals.
In the play, there are references to the importance of social relations and the sympathy that children show when they see any problem or trauma in front of them, and they are affected in an instinctive way, which indicates signs of awareness and the existence of human feeling. Through Hillary, Spike, and other characters, the writer shows the importance of kindness, love, and loyalty.
Regarding the play, writer Abdel-Fattah Qalaji said that it embodies scientific ideas such as awareness, empathy, formation of the mind, coincidence, experience and testing, pointing out that it came faithful to most postmodern data and confronting betrayals of all kinds.
