Children and young people between the ages of seven and 21 can apply for the Youth Culture Prize until January 17th

County – It's a success story.

For the 23rd time, the Kreisjugendring Ebersberg is proclaiming the youth culture prize.

This year's theme: "Awake at night".

"We're taking up very current issues," says project manager Leonie Gillhuber, who is currently completing a voluntary social year (FSJ) at the Kreisjugendring (KJR).

"The topic is very closely related to the younger generation," says the 19-year-old from Moosach.

"And it illuminates two sides," adds KJR Managing Director Philipp Spiegelsberger.

“Many young people are awake at night because they want to catch up after the corona restrictions, but also because they have worries and fears about the current crises.

The war in Ukraine and climate change are keeping many young people from sleeping." And indeed, at least that is evident from the contributions of recent years,

the younger generation often deals critically, seriously and reflects on the problems of the present.

Despite all this, this year's topic is understood openly.

Spiegelsberger: "We deliberately chose an uncharged term and want to offer an open space for creativity." Together with the jury - Babsi Lux (Altes Kino), Konrad Peters (KJR Ebersberg), Luci Ott (Kunstverein), Max Bauer ( Foley), Peter Hinz-Rosin (photographer) and Sophia Stiftinger (KJR Ebersberg) - the topic was chosen.

One was also inspired by the current German rap title of the same name, which young people are currently listening to.

Children and young people between the ages of seven and 21 can take part in the youth culture award, alone or in a group, for example as a school class.

You can submit works of art of all kinds. From drawings and comics to sculptures and posters to videos, texts or poems, everything is allowed and encouraged.

The works could not only be shown live in front of an audience.

"But we assume that it will be possible live again this time," hopes Spiegelsberger.

As usual, an exhibition of the submitted works of art is planned for the public in the studio on the ramp of the Ebersberger Kunstverein from February 3rd to 5th.

The award ceremony will also take place there on the day of the finissage.

In order to adequately appreciate the up-and-coming artists, prize money totaling 2,500 euros is available, which the jury will distribute in various categories.

Contributions to the youth culture prize can be submitted to the KJR office by January 17th.

This is located at Bahnhofstraße 12 in Ebersberg.
