From now on, the former "Terra X" moderator Dirk Steffens will work together with RTL.

He will moderate a new quiz show next year alongside "Jungle Camp" presenter Sonja Zietlow.

Celebrities travel all over the world for these.

Cologne – Anyone who tunes in to “Terra X” regularly knows: Dirk Steffens (55) takes his job very seriously and is not afraid of any long journeys or challenges.

Whether it's caving, natural phenomena or botany - the iconic format has often taken him all over the world, to the most diverse countries and the most colorful cultures.

After many years at ZDF, the journalist is now heading for new shores and taking his expertise with him to competitor RTL.

New show with Sonja Zietlow: "Terra X" presenter Dirk Steffens switches to RTL

For a long time, Dirk Steffens was an integral part of the ZDF family and contributed a lot to the roaring success of the broadcaster, which is headquartered in Mainz.

Ever since he first appeared in front of the camera for the exciting knowledge journeys of "Terra X" on June 5, 2011, he has invited inquisitive viewers on countless adventures around the world and was awarded the Golden Camera for this in 2011.

For many ZDF viewers, his farewell should be the end of an era – but the moderator is far from turning his back on television.

Dirk Steffens and Sonja Zietlow will be doing things together from now on: starting next year, they will be moderating the new RTL quiz show “In 55 questions around the world” together.

“Around the World in 55 Questions – The Big GEO Show” is the name of the new format that Dirk Steffens is currently working on with RTL.

And even though he's changed channels, one thing still comes first: discovering the earth.

Alongside "Jungle Camp" legend Sonja Zietlow (54), he deals with burning questions from all over the world in the quiz show, after all, one never stops learning.

“How do you harvest seeds from the canopy of a 30 meter high tree?

How do you spend a whole night deep in the heart of the earth?

And how do you track down poachers?” RTL presents the show in a press release.

How do you become a moderator?

Working as a presenter for the major television stations is a real dream job for many.

However, getting there is not as easy as one might wish.

Of course, there is the possibility of jumping straight into the moderation chair as a career changer without special training - for example through a successful casting.

In most cases, however, the journey is a lot less straightforward and only leads from an initial internship, an apprenticeship and work as an editor to being in front of the camera after several stages.
