With the enthusiasm of the three teachers for cycling, the cycling team of St. Francis Xavier's College in Fanling started from scratch and now has a small scale.

Teacher Yuan Weijie said that although cyclists often win glory for Hong Kong, it is not easy to set up a cycling team in the school because there are no cycling competitions in the school world, and it involves equipment, venues and safety issues.

At present, there are more than 20 members in the school team. Li Zixuan, a sixth-form student, said that riding a bicycle has changed his perception of winning and losing. "Before losing, I felt that I was losing to my teammates, but when cycling, I felt that I did not train enough."

He said that in the future he will partner with his teachers and classmates, and the five of them will compete in the SHKP Hong Kong Cyclothon on December 18.

Yuan Weijie, a teacher who founded St. Francis College's cycling team, said that at that time there were three teachers in the school who loved cycling. Although none of them were physical education teachers, they still wanted to promote cycling in the school.

He said that it is difficult to promote cycling in schools. Firstly, there is no school competition for cycling, so it is difficult for schools to have too many resources; fight.

Yuen said that during the epidemic in recent years, relying on technology to help, he held or participated in e-sports cycling competitions, and the response was quite enthusiastic.

He pointed out that he met the staff of Xindi Cycling Academy in a team-leading competition. Under the leadership of the other party, he assisted the school students to obtain the bicycle track use certificate, which can run on the bicycle track of the Hong Kong Velodrome. At present, more than 10 people in the team have succeeded Apply for a license.

Li Zixuan, a sixth form student, is one of the "certificate holders". He recalled the first time he stepped on the velodrome track with "Luo Wok", and described his mood at that time as "very happy and excited, but he was so shocked when he fell from the top." With a little athletic talent, he started cycling in Form 3. He used to be a member of the football team. "I really like sports, but it may be 15 minutes of enthusiasm. The teacher suggested that I ride a bicycle. I thought it was fun and I kept going."

Zixuan said with a smile that cycling is the sport he has persisted in for the longest time. He used to feel that he was constantly losing when he was in the football team, and he felt dull. If you lose to your teammates, you will feel that you have not trained enough on the bike." He also said that he had the honor to compete with the "Riding Goddess" Li Huishi on the same field. Just follow behind with a little effort, and we will be embarrassed."

Another team member, Wen Zhixi, who has graduated for two years, also mentioned that the feeling of pedaling a bicycle in a velodrome for the first time was very different from that of a bicycle machine. Cycling can train students' perseverance, and can also exercise their mental and physical fitness. "(Students) used to be unable to afford to lose, and would lose their temper when they lost. Now they don't blame others, but they are not self-reviewed, and their progress is obvious."

The cycling team and five teachers will participate in the SHKP Cycling Festival on December 18th. Zixuan and Zhixi joked that they will ride the "big cold" (that is, a circle around the New Territories) once a week, and they are expected to have enough physical fitness to cope with the 50km cycle. The schedule of the Three Bridges and Three Tunnels; Mr. Yuan hopes that this year the team can complete the race within one and a half hours.

Since the Hong Kong Cycling Festival was held on October 14, 2018, it has been suspended in the past three years due to the anti-revision storm and the new crown epidemic.
