Tegernsee – Gyms are the worst option for accommodating people.

The District Committee agreed on this.

And yet it happens again.

The mayors, district councilors and district administrator Olaf von Löwis agree that gyms are the worst option for accommodating people.

And yet von Löwis currently sees no other option.

The sports hall at the Tegernsee Gymnasium is currently being converted into emergency accommodation again (we reported).

The accommodation of refugees was also a topic in the district committee last week.

Andreas Hallmannsecker (FWG) spoke of an “insane emergency” and criticized the strict conditions.

"Fire protection always fails," he said, referring to "vacant houses and farms" that exist in the region.

"It's much worse where people come from," emphasized Hallmannsecker.

In the current situation, where many people need to be accommodated quickly, the former Valley mayor hopes more buildings can be used through exemptions.

And Hallmannsecker hopes for "generous consideration" of the legal regulations.

Olaf von Löwis confirmed that he would use any leeway.

"We'll do it," he emphasized.

But more is not possible.

"There are simplifications from the legislature, but not when it comes to fire protection when it comes to life and limb," added department head Maria Rode.

“We try to examine benevolently,” said von Löwis.

However, not every object that appears suitable at first glance is actually an option.

Heating, sanitary facilities and much more would have to be taken into account.

Vacant buildings are often too run down to be usable.

This also applies to some closed hotels that Christine Negele (SPD) had in mind.

At least there are enough sanitary facilities.

"It cannot be that they are empty," said Negele, suggesting that forced occupancy be considered.

In addition to the high legal hurdles, there is another difficulty.

Hotels are often not suitable for accommodating asylum seekers, explained District Treasurer Gerhard de Biasio.

Because the requirements regarding fire protection have been increased to the level of social facilities.

"I wouldn't expect much there," said de Biasio.

So for the time being there is only the hope that further possible objects will be reported.

District Administrator von Löwis hopes for the mayors and the population.

"We have very few reports," von Löwis regrets, emphasizing: "We need specific information, then we check and try not to be more papal than the Pope." Hopes also rest on two container facilities in Holzkirchen and Hausham.

However, people won't be able to move in there for six months at the earliest.

So the district has no choice but to convert sports halls.

Christian Köck (CSU) pointed out that they are not suitable and the follow-up costs for a renovation.

He also thinks that other administrative districts should be made more responsible.

Olaf von Löwis agreed, but referred to the Königstein key, which is used to distribute refugees.

And then there are even too few accommodated in the district of Miesbach.

The referring authorities would only consider the quota, but not the actual situation on site, the district administrator complained.

So it will probably remain the case that buses full of people who need to be accommodated quickly will arrive in the district without a long-term announcement.
