The National Commission for Computing and Liberties (Cnil) on Thursday sanctioned the telephone operator Free with a fine of 300,000 euros for not having respected "
the rights of persons
" and "
data security
" of its users .
Checks have thus made it possible to note “
several breaches
”, in particular the “
right of access and (the) right of erasure
”, as well as “
data security
”, explained the Cnil, seized of several complaints.
She cites the examples of “
weak robustness
” of passwords, of “
storage and transmission in clear
” of passwords, or even the “
recirculation ” of around 4,100 “
poorly reconditioned
” Freebox boxes
.

The announcement of this significant fine of 300,000 euros, which takes into account "
the size and the financial situation of the company
", is justified by "
the need to recall the importance of dealing with requests for the rights of persons and of securing the user data
", further underlined the Commission.
Last January, the subsidiary of the Iliad group had already been sanctioned by the Cnil with a fine of 300,000 euros for similar reasons.
