STORY - In France, he was the one who had saved a castle. In Ukraine, he had escaped his debts by pretending to be dead. Today, this rich crook from the East is accountable to French justice.


With its multiple turrets, its glazed roof, its drawbridge and its medieval moat, La Rochepot looks like a fairytale castle.

Since 2015, the estate, located about twenty kilometers from Beaune (Côte d'Or), has been at the heart of an incredible story of money laundering.

Jewel of Burgundy, the residence, after having been the property of the President of the Republic Sadi Carnot, had been bought by a rich Ukrainian heir named Dmitri Malinovsky.

Indicted in October 2018 for “organized money laundering”, the millionaire had since been placed under judicial supervision.

Wednesday, November 16, after ten days of hearing during which six people appeared before the Nancy Criminal Court, the prosecution had requested against the owner five years in prison and the confiscation of the monument.

The public prosecutor had also requested a permanent ban on residing on French territory against the Ukrainian.
