Inexpensive and good: Stiftung Warentest recommends electric toothbrushes under €60

Stiftung Warentest has tested several electric toothbrushes in different price ranges.

Electric toothbrushes allow for a more thorough cleaning of teeth.

Good models do not have to be expensive, as they also do well in the Stiftung Warentest.

Whether toothbrushes, smartphones, kitchen appliances or other items: expensive premium models for several hundred euros can be found in stores for every product.

There is no denying that customers often have to pay more for branded products simply because of the name or logo.

However, established brands also stand for quality.

Many people appreciate that, which is why they are willing to pay a little more for it.

But that is not always necessary.

Sometimes cheaper products achieve almost the same results.

According to the Stiftung Warentest, this is also the case with electric toothbrushes.

There, many models that cost no more than 60 euros have already received the test grade "Good".

Electric toothbrushes at Stiftung Warentest: the most important features

• No major differences between rotating and sonic

  toothbrushes: both types of toothbrushes clean equally well and neither offers clear advantages.

• Sonic toothbrushes clean larger areas

  : With rotating electric toothbrushes you brush your teeth individually, while sonic toothbrushes reach larger areas due to their elongated brush heads.

• Low electricity costs

  : According to the Stiftung Warentest, you don't have to worry about power consumption.

  For electric toothbrushes with rechargeable batteries, the electricity costs amount to a maximum of four euros per year.

• What was tested?

  The Stiftung Warentest evaluated the thoroughness of the tooth cleaning, the handling and the durability of the individual toothbrushes.

Are electric toothbrushes really more thorough?

According to the Stiftung Warentest, various studies show that electric toothbrushes clean more thoroughly.

However, the result always depends on how thorough you are when brushing your teeth.

Some electric models offer further assistance with additional functions and now even apps.

The cleaning time should in any case last at least two minutes.

Tips for using electric toothbrushes

• Do not apply too much pressure as this can damage teeth and gums.

• Change the brush head about every three months.

• After brushing your teeth, rinse both the brush head and handle thoroughly.

• Continue to floss between your teeth, even if you use an electric toothbrush.
