Russia's ambassador to Iraq, Elbrus Kotrashev, said that the Iraqis want to acquire Russian weapons, but the United States is hindering the building of military-technical cooperation between Moscow and Baghdad.
"The Iraqis prefer Soviet and Russian weapons because they are familiar with them and their prices are competitive, and they do not like the cost and maintenance of American weapons, which are four times more expensive than Russian weapons," Kotrashev told RIA Novosti.
He pointed out that the United States imposes its weapons and services on the Iraqis, and does not allow them to view the supplied equipment and monopolizes all maintenance operations, as if there is something that it does not want to show even to the consumer.
