Lot-et-Garonne: law enforcement violently attacked in Tonneins


This Tuesday in Tonneins, a notably alcoholic convict violently attacked the gendarmes and police. The brawl generated several days of ITT for six of them.

," reacted Colonel Emmanuel Haouzé, commander of the Lot-et-Garonne gendarmerie group, 48 hours after the fact, when one of the two arrested, the most 31-year-old, continued to spit in their faces while handcuffed.

Tuesday at the beginning of the afternoon, the first brigade of the municipal police of Tonneins is dispatched to the city center after the attack on a civilian.

She then faces a particularly violent individual.

The latter, already known to the police, dealt many blows to one of them.

He was diagnosed with five days of total work interruption (ITT).

His two teammates, who were not spared, were arrested for two days.

Two individuals known to the police

Called in reinforcement, a first patrol of the gendarmerie first tries a return to verbal calm.

In vain.

In a context made more complex by the crowd of onlookers, the soldiers in turn suffered insults and violent blows.

Particularly exposed, one of the soldiers is on ITT for six days.

His two brothers in arms are also there for two and three days.

According to a source close to the investigation, the suspect, released in the summer of 2022 after a prison sentence, was under the influence of alcohol and narcotics.

Also present at the time of the events, his father did not facilitate the action of the police, far from it.

Aged 66, he is also already known to the police for acts of violence, theft or narcotics.

In the end, it took the reinforcement of five additional soldiers assigned to the surveillance and intervention platoon of the national gendarmerie (Psig), as well as the use of the taser, to immobilize and control the two men.

Nine gendarmes and three police officers victims

Affected by this event, which occurs shortly after the Vanesa affair, the gendarmes concerned were taken care of by the psychological cell put into service after the murder of the teenager on November 18.

The three municipal police officers, the nine gendarmes, the person initially attacked and Dante Rinaudo, the mayor of Tonneins and witness to the scene, filed a complaint.

Treated by the judicial police unit of Agen (Lot-et-Garonne), the case will be judged in immediate appearance at the Court of Bordeaux this Friday.

The staff of the national gendarmerie in Tonneins was also reinforced after this incident.

Three formerly active reservists are delegated to the pedestrian surveillance of the town until Monday, December 19.

Date on which, they will be relayed by a detachment of two Psig patrols, which were to intervene in Marmande (Lot-et-Garonne).

Informed of the situation, Jean-Michel Chavanne, prefect of Lot-et-Garonne, will travel to Tonneins to show his support for the police this Saturday, December 10.
