The bloody deed in Illerkirchberg shook Germany.

After the knife attack, the police briefly arrested two other men in addition to the suspect.

Now one of them has died.

Ulm – A 14-year-old girl was killed in a knife attack on Monday morning and her friend (13) was seriously injured.

The grief in Illerkirchen (Baden-Württemberg) is great.

The investigation is proceeding swiftly.

Much after the bloody act of violence in Illerkirchberg is still unclear.

The mayor of Illerkirchberg called on his citizens to be prudent: "The attack on the two girls must be pursued and punished with all consequence," wrote Markus Häußler in an open letter.

"But this insidious crime was committed by a single person, not by a group of people."

A civil war refugee from Eritrea is said to have attacked the two girls on the way to school and seriously injured them.

An arrest warrant for murder and attempted murder was issued against the 29-year-old suspect.

After his fatal attack on Monday, the suspect fled to the asylum accommodation across from the crime scene.

Shortly thereafter, the police temporarily arrested the 29-year-old and two other men who were also in an apartment there.

Both were released later that same day.

Now one of the two men is dead. There was no suspicion against the 25-year-old, emphasized the Memmingen public prosecutor's office together with the police headquarters in Swabia South/West and Ulm on Thursday.

The 25-year-old "jumped onto the rails around 1 p.m. immediately in front of a freight train that was going to Send at that moment," said the Memmingen public prosecutor's office together with the police headquarters in Swabia South/West and Ulm on Thursday.

Despite driving slowly in the station area, the train driver was apparently unable to stop in time.

"The train caught the 25-year-old".

The man died on the spot.

The public prosecutor's office in Memmingen and the police headquarters in Swabia South/West assume, according to their own statements, "that the 25-year-old went in front of the train of his own accord and without the help of anyone else." Why did the 25-year-old kill himself so shortly after the preliminary arrest took is now the subject of further investigations.

In general, we do not report suicides, lest such cases encourage potential imitators.

Reporting only takes place if the circumstances receive special public attention.
