Italy's Prime Minister Meloni and her daughter have received death threats.

The police manhunt led to a Sicilian.

It was about the citizen money.

Munich – Giorgia Meloni will be able to sleep more peacefully in the future.

After Italy's first female prime minister received multiple death threats online, the police found a suspect.

It is a 27-year-old Sicilian who is said to have spread the threatening messages against the chairwoman of the right-wing populist Fratelli d'Italia and her little daughter Ginevra Giambruno via Twitter.

The man from the city of Syracuse in the southeast of the island who was targeted by the investigators was caught despite the pseudonym he used.

His home was searched and his computer equipment and social media account confiscated.

The background to his news was that the right-wing Melonis government wants to largely abolish citizen income by 2024.

Death threats against Meloni: Twitter warns against the abolition of citizen income

Under the "Sashamanexi" Twitter account, Meloni was threatened on Twitter: "If you take away my income, I will kill you and your daughter." It also said that both would "get a knife in your stomach".

Meloni's Fratelli d'Italia party published a compilation of the tweets, wrote of "unworthy threats" and emphasized that they were on the side of the head of government.

The citizen benefit, launched in 2019 by the left-wing populist Five Star Movement, was intended to give unemployed people in Italy financial security and make it easier for them to get back to work.

However, Meloni sees the state support as a failure because many people have been recipients for years.

This is particularly true in the poorer south of Italy.

The new government suspects that a significant proportion of them would rather live on citizen income than pursue regular work.

As the Austrian

reports, Meloni saw herself exposed to death threats even as an opposition politician.

So she had led a lawsuit against a stalker who had been stalking her for years.

The man was sentenced to two years in prison in 2020.
