The director of the General Organization for Seed Multiplication branch in Hama, Engineer Louay Al-Husari, revealed that the branch sold 12,000 tons of sterilized and sifted wheat seeds to the governorate’s farmers from the beginning of the sales operations to date, directly or through funding from agricultural banks through agricultural associations.
Al-Husari indicated in a statement to SANA reporter that the quantities of seeds that were sold were distributed in the branch center in the city of Hama, and in the agricultural banks spread throughout the governorate, in addition to the quantities that were drawn by international organizations, and the sales are still continuing until the end of the date for planting wheat for the current season.
Al-Husari pointed out that the branch has organized contracts with a number of farmers to cultivate propagating fields with wheat and barley, with the aim of producing improved seeds from the two crops that meet the farmers’ needs for the next season, indicating that 639 contracts have been organized for the cultivation of propagating fields with wheat, and 121 contracts for the cultivation of barley.
And Al-Husari indicated that the sifting and sterilization of wheat received from the propagating fields last season is still continuing, as 17,000 tons were sieved and sterilized in the sifting and agricultural mechanization centers, with a capacity of 200 tons of seed per day, pointing out that the amount of seed currently in the branch’s warehouses is good and sufficient for wheat cultivation. In the lands of the province within the agricultural plan this season.
Last season, the branch sold about 23,000 tons of wheat.
