Roland L. (38) had stabbed his girlfriend Evi - and was convicted of murder in Munich.

But the Federal Court of Justice reversed the verdict.

Now the district court in Munich I has to be renegotiated – because of manslaughter.

Munich – It was a deadly drama in chic Nymphenburg: In October 2020, Roland L. (38) stabbed his wife Evi.

The district court of Munich I sentenced the IT consultant to life imprisonment for murder.

But now the criminal case has to be reopened - because the Federal Court of Justice in Karlsruhe assessed the Munich judgment as partially incorrect and therefore cashed in.

The background: the Munich judges saw jealousy as the central motive for murder in Roland L. He had only been married to Evi since 2018, but the marriage was obviously in crisis – also because it is said to have been addicted to gambling.

Roland L. suspected that his wife was cheating and stabbed her to death during an argument.

A deadly mistake, as it turned out later.

Because Evi L. had only exchanged messages with other online players.

In fact, there never was a meeting.

Nevertheless, Roland L. suspected that his wife was cheating on him.

On the evening of the fact, there is said to have been a dispute about it.

According to the verdict, the IT consultant then stabbed his wife from behind while she was sitting on the sofa.

Before the district court, Roland L. regretted the incident and cried bitter tears.

The Federal Court of Justice now rated the act as manslaughter, which was probably done out of affect - and not as murder.

The case must now be retried.

The district court Munich I is responsible again, but this time a criminal chamber.

"It's now about the new sentencing," says defense attorney Michael Adams, who represents Roland L., who was convicted of murder, and had successfully applied for an appeal.

According to Adams, the remaining findings from the first trial are “already final”.

In the repeat process, Roland L. now faces a prison sentence of no less than five years - and a maximum of life if the court classifies the case as particularly serious.
