The referendum has created facts: There will be no bypass roads for Holzkirchen and Großhartpenning.

Other solutions are now required to reduce traffic congestion in the towns.

Holzkirchen

– A good two weeks after the referendum on two possible bypass roads for Holzkirchen and Großhartpenning/Kurzenberg, the result of the vote on Tuesday in the municipal council was on the agenda.

Mayor Christoph Schmid (CSU) explained that he had written to Stefan Leitner from the Rosenheim State Building Authority and informed him that the referendum would have represented a “clear vote” against both routes.

Schmid wrote that the focus would now be on local measures.

According to earlier statements by the Rosenheim authority, which previously planned the two bypass routes on behalf of the federal government and according to the specifications of the federal traffic route plan, further planning is being discontinued.

An official answer from the authority will take a while, Leitner Schmid said by phone.

In the municipal council, the voter turnout in the referendum was particularly praised.

Robert Wiechmann spoke of a "victory of democracy".

With their vote, the citizens had given an order.

Now you have to "step it up a notch" to "tackle bigger things," said Wiechmann.

Sebastian Franz (CSU) warned that all future actions should be "based on the facts".

Some things, such as a speed limit of 30 km/h, cannot be implemented at all.

"The possibilities aren't all that great," believes Franz.

Elisabeth Dasch (SPD) called on all supporters of the bypass roads to continue planning together.

However, she also pointed out that each individual can contribute to reducing motorized individual traffic in Holzkirchen.

Hubert Müller's (FWG) statement showed that this might not be enough.

"Through traffic is still there." Torsten Hensel (FWG) called for the mobility concept to be updated.

At the same time, however, it must also be pointed out what has already been achieved, such as the introduction of the Hoki bus.

Mayor Schmid was optimistic.

Holzkirchen was the winner of the decision, he repeated earlier statements.

But now the citizens would have to "take their own nose".

The municipality is also taking measures to reduce traffic, currently the railway underpass for pedestrians and cyclists on Buchenstrasse.

The tunnel connects the Ländl residential area with the East commercial area and the town centre.

The breakthrough is scheduled to go into operation before the end of this year.

And Schmid announced other projects: "I have other things up my sleeve." However, he did not give any details.
