In October, Celine Dion had to cancel her Las Vegas shows due to severe muscle cramps.

Now the "My Heart will go on" singer speaks for the first time about her illness.

And also cancels her European tour, which was supposed to take place in 2023.

Las Vegas – Celine Dion (54) has been plagued by severe health problems for more than a year.

So far, the native Canadian spoke of "severe and persistent muscle cramps" because of which she had to cancel her performances in Las Vegas.

Now the singer shared a video on Instagram in which she spoke in detail about her illness for the first time.

Celine Dion suffers from stiff person syndrome

"I wasn't ready to say anything before.

But now I'm ready," Celine Dion begins the video.

"I was recently diagnosed with a very rare nervous condition called stiff person syndrome," explains the 54-year-old.

The singer keeps struggling for composure, her eyes are glassy.

Before she can continue speaking, Celine Dion has to take a deep breath several times.

“Unfortunately, the cramps are affecting all aspects of my daily life.

Sometimes they make it difficult for me to walk and forbid my vocal cords to sing the way I'm used to.

I'm sorry to tell you I'm not ready to restart my tour in February."

What is stiff person syndrome?

Stiff person syndrome is a very rare autoimmune disease.

There are only one to two cases per million people.

Those affected suffer from regular muscle cramps, muscle hardening and feelings of stiffness.

There is no cure for SPS, but the course of the disease can be slowed down with various therapies.

Physiotherapy or muscle-relaxing medication can help.

Celine Dion is doing everything to be back on stage soon

Celine Dion has to postpone her already postponed "Courage" tour again.

"I have a great team of doctors who are helping me get healthier.

I work hard every day with my sports medicine therapist to rebuild my strength."

She misses the stage and her fans and wants to give concerts again as soon as possible.

For Celine Dion it is already the second stroke of fate.

In January 2016, she lost her beloved husband, René Angelil († 73), to esophageal cancer.

The couple had been married since 1994.

By the way, Celine Dion's fans also include some celebrities.

Adele, for example, admits that her "most valuable possession" is the singer's chewing gum.
