Opinion Netanyahu's last test Israel today

2022-12-08T08:17:02.923Z

In stark contrast to the majority of his voters and the majority of citizens in Israel, a white and left-wing media leader is one of the factors that bothers Netanyahu the most. Almost always such a noise caused him to fold

A few weeks ago I laughed on stage at the artificial hysteria of the squealing herd of the losers in the elections, which will henceforth be called "the foot stomping cult" for reasons of convenience.

I laughed at the chizebets, about secular women who were afraid of people of Halacha who would forcibly cover their heads, about horror stories about re-education camps and the death of democracy (yes, the same democracy that had already died when Begin came to power, of course) and on and on.

Many claimed that I exaggerated in attaching the label of hysteria to that sect.

For moments I almost agreed with them.

But now, when it appears that a democratic right-wing government elected by the majority will eventually be established, we can declare: I did not exaggerate.

I probably didn't exaggerate enough.

Those who read and go through the articles, posts and tweets will understand what the majority of the public in Israel already understood: significant parts of the foot stomping cult are now undergoing a rapid metamorphosis from normal political activists - who more and who less - to types who might be worth hugging, saying that it will be okay, suggesting that they wipe the foam from their mouths And drink some water to relax.

Oda - I enjoy here and there the spectacular spectacle of the variety of types that make up the sect and their quotes on the networks.

A host of "Israel the First" people, from millionaires of budget pensions, through middle-class academics and tenure-trackers to students with historical knowledge of a ceiling fan and more.

To watch those types as they go from "warning against the death of democracy" to a tantrum-like state of "war for its return", accompanied by calls to climb the Bastille and fight the militias that exist in their imagination - it is indeed a playful spectacle.

There is hardly a single right-wing person in Israel who does not roll his eyes tiredly in front of those screams and continues his daily routine.

The problem is that those tramps know that their every belch, even the most embarrassing (and the selection is huge), will open editions and be accepted as fact.

In one week the "Calcalist" newspaper, Sharon Drucker, the "Vinet" website and others skipped in advance the false representation of "Daga" for democracy, and simply went on to report the end as a fait accompli with internal discussions not about the question of whether, but when a bloody civil war will break out here to rescue us From the religious theocracy that automatically (again) arose inside their heads.

And that is already a problem.

In complete contrast to the majority of his voters and the majority of citizens in Israel, left-wing media and white noise is one of the factors that most disturbs Benjamin Netanyahu.

They will mostly have fun, but Netanyahu - and not for the first time - may fold.

Media pressure and high-profile criticism almost always folded him.

The Histadrut, the judicial system and the bureaucracy were something that he was careful to watch out for like fire and always made sure at the moment of truth to text any move, even the smallest, that would limit them for fear of headlines about the "dangerous dictator" who would ruin everything here.

Now comes Netanyahu's final, and probably the most important ever test: will he listen to his voters or to Drucker?

only time will tell.

Netanyahu may surprise, and for the first time ever, cool the whispering and bureaucratic embers that are crumbling Israeli democracy.

But just to surprise.
