One person died on the night of Wednesday December 7 to Thursday December 8 in floods in the Lisbon region, hit by heavy rains, said the civil protection services.

The heavy rains, which caused flooding in several areas of Lisbon, damaged many cars while several railway stations, tunnels and roads in the capital were closed.

", said the mayor of Lisbon, Carlos Moedas, adding that the construction of underground tunnels to drain river water would begin next year.
