The FDP politician and lawyer Karoline Preisler will not run for the office of constitutional judge in Brandenburg.

This was announced by the FDP Brandenburg on Thursday evening.

The politician, who lives partly in Berlin and partly on the Baltic Sea, wanted to stand for election to succeed director Andreas Dresen for the state constitutional court.

Potsdam/Barth – Reports about her private life are given as the reason for the withdrawal.

According to a statement by the FDP, she said on Thursday: "After a long struggle, I have decided not to continue my candidacy for the office of constitutional judge in the state of Brandenburg.

Events in my private life and reports about them have recently made headlines.

To avert damage to the dignity of the office of constitutional judge and my democratic homeland, I am not standing for further election.” There were headlines in the media about the separation from her partner.

Preisler is an outstanding personality with an East German biography, said the Brandenburg FDP state chairman Zyon Braun in October.

The FDP is confident that they have a good chance of getting a majority in the state parliament.

Now Braun expressed his regret about their withdrawal.

Preisler was born in East Berlin in 1971.

According to the Brandenburg Liberals, she lives half of the year in Berlin and in Barth in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.

During the corona pandemic, she drew attention to herself with a diary about her illness on the Internet.

Previously it had been said that the Brandenburg state parliament would probably decide in December on the successor to Dresen, who will retire as Brandenburg constitutional judge in November.

So far, the Grünheide lawyer Hildegard Vera Kaethner has also been up for election as an AfD candidate and the Mahlow lawyer Sylvia Püschel as a BVB/free voter candidate.

In October, the representatives of the six factions in the state parliament could not agree on a person.
