Pensioner Hans Bromberger (75) is to pay 712 euros per month for the electricity in his 100 square meter apartment near the forest cemetery.

He is one of more and more Munich public utility customers who are now up in arms.

Many

readers have also contacted us and don't want to simply accept the steep price increases for electricity and gas.

Some now want to resign from the Stadtwerke (SWM).

The debate has been in full swing since the federal government announced that it would only allow price increases if the individual suppliers can prove that their procurement costs have really risen so extremely.

The SWM are particularly expensive in a Germany-wide comparison, but want to continue to insist on their increases (we reported).

Some customers are stunned.

"The price is amazing," says pensioner Bromberger, whose heating runs on electricity.

So far he had to pay under 4000 euros a year - less than half of the new price.

He sees only one solution: "I'll try to change providers now."

Dieter Ulsamer (72) from Moosach has already done this and resigned from the public utility company.

A conversation with his sister-in-law from Erding made him suspicious.

“We always use around 3500 kilowatt hours per year.

If I use this data as a basis, it costs over 500 euros more in Munich than in Erding.”

Municipal utilities with enormous price increases - SWM Group comments

SWM customer Ralf Kreuzer (64) from Obersendling has enough: his green electricity tariff has almost tripled during peak times, from 25.07 to 74.13 cents per kilowatt hour.

"That seems inappropriate to me.

According to the Stadtwerke, “the number of people who are currently terminating their contract is limited,” was the response to a

request.

But they don't want to give specific numbers.

They intend to “lower the prices again as quickly as possible, as soon as the market situation allows us”.

For example, for Manfred Stephan (81) from Bergkirchen, who is skeptical about changing providers: "I'm particularly careful with the small electricity providers, they don't have much financial support." But he would always have a reason to change.

So Toni Sorg (name changed, 76) from Kirchhheim: "Instead of 170 euros for electricity and gas, I should pay 520 euros in the future." The problem: his wife is unable to work after a corona disease.

“That means the money is even tighter.

In the future I would have to overdraw my account every month because the two of us would only have 300 to 400 euros per month at our free disposal.

But that doesn't work in the long run either."

Cornelia W. from Puchheim even fears having to move.

So far, she has been paying 250 euros a month for gas anyway.

Now the municipal utilities have announced a tripling by telephone, she reports: "We are running out of money."
