This year on New Year's Eve everything should be like before Corona.

However, some fireworks bans remain in place in certain cities.

We give you an overview.

Munich/Berlin - It's finally that time again: At the turn of the year 2022/2023, you can fire again.

After two years of abstinence from fireworks, supermarkets and discounters such as Aldi and Lidl are preparing to sell fireworks again.

But not in all places you can light the rockets.

Some cities are planning no firecracker zones so that things are quieter.

The big overview of where firecrackers are allowed this year and where shopping is worthwhile.

New Year's Eve 2022: In which federal states are fireworks allowed?

Class II fireworks will be sold in Germany from December 29th to December 31st.

This class includes the common New Year's Eve rockets, which may only be purchased from the age of 18.

The bans of the last two years could only be imposed due to the determination of an "epidemic situation of national importance".

Since these no longer exist, a ban on sales and a ban on buying and gathering for New Year's Eve and New Year's Eve are not foreseeable.

According to the Federal Ministry for the Environment, the decision to ban firecrackers on New Year's Eve lies with the cities and districts.

Some cities have planned further restrictions and bans beyond the federal fireworks regulations on New Year's Eve.

The lighting of fireworks and firecrackers is prohibited in the immediate vicinity of churches, hospitals, children's and old people's homes, thatched and half-timbered houses and particularly endangered objects.

These further restrictions apply in the countries.

Berlin

In Berlin, firecrackers are prohibited in some areas.

As in previous years, there is a no-fire zone on Alexanderplatz.

A ban also applies in the Steinmetzkiez in Schöneberg, near Pallasstraße and in some streets of Alt-Moabit, as the Berlin interior

administration announced to rbb24

.

However, a final decision has yet to be made.

These areas would be particularly chaotic.

Fireworks injuries, physical altercations, attacks on rescue and emergency services and breaches of the peace often occurred there.

Brandenburg

There should be no major bans on private fireworks in Brandenburg, as

rbb24

further reported.

So there would be the usual restrictions in Cottbus.

That means: no fireworks around medical facilities, nursing homes or animal parks.

Brandenburg an der Havel also refrains from bans because there is no legal basis for this.

Saxony

In Saxony, too, firecrackers are largely possible again.

As of November 12, a spokeswoman for the Saxon Ministry of Social Affairs said when asked by dpa that no restrictions were planned for the turn of the year.

MDR

.

However, the police inspections of the two cities emphasized that nothing was certain with certainty.

Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania

The municipalities in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania are currently not planning a ban on fireworks.

As in all federal states, the usual restricted areas apply around hospitals or around endangered buildings, of which there are some.

Because the thatched roofs, which are widespread in the north, are particularly at risk of fire.

Therefore, no fireworks will be possible in some Baltic Sea resorts, as reported by the

Nordkurier

.

"For a general ban on firecrackers, the federal and state governments would have to create the conditions, which is currently unknown.

This cannot currently be determined by municipal decision, ”said the first deputy of the mayor, Chris von Wrycz Rekowski from Schwerin, to the

dpa

.

Nevertheless, the city is checking whether prohibited zones are issued for environmental reasons.

Schleswig Holstein

In Schleswig-Holstein, no further bans are known about the nationwide rules.

Hamburg

The city of Hamburg is planning fireworks restrictions in the city center.

According to the current status, a ban on fireworks is planned at the Rathausmarkt and the Binnenalster, as reported

by 24hamubrg.de

.

Lower Saxony

Hanover is also planning to ban the carrying and lighting of fireworks in parts of the city center this year, as reported by the

NDR

.

In the inner ring in Celle and in the historic old town of Göttingen and the associated ramparts, firing firecrackers is prohibited due to the high risk of fire.

Bremen

In Bremen, the ban on firecrackers in the area of the Weser Promenade Schlachte will remain in place.

The reason is security, as the Bremen interior department

informed the

NDR .

Fireworks are also not allowed to be set off in listed areas such as the market square, the town hall or in the Schnoorviertel.

Anyone who does not comply with the firecracker rules risks a fine of between 5,000 and 50,000 euros.

North Rhine-Westphalia

For safety reasons, there will be a no-gun zone in several large cities in North Rhine-Westphalia.

As in 2019, there should be a fireworks-free zone around Cologne Cathedral, which will be expanded from 10 p.m., as

wa.de

reported.

In the old town of Düsseldorf there is a ban on firecrackers between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m.

There will also be restrictions in Bielefeld.

Rhineland-Palatinate

Certain rules must be observed in some cities in Rhineland-Palatinate.

The city of Mayen has issued a fireworks ban for the city center, as reported by

SWR

.

Trier has also announced a ban on firecrackers in the main market area.

It is still being examined whether the ban will be extended to other streets in the city centre.

So far, Kaiserslautern is not planning a ban, but it seems that the last word has not yet been spoken.

In the state capital of Mainz, there is no general ban on fireworks, as the head of the regulatory department Manuela Matz (CDU)

told the

SWR .

Saarland

No bans are planned in Saarland at the moment.

In addition to the applicable nationwide regulations, "no special regulations" are planned in the Saarland capital Saarbrücken, as city press spokesman Thomas Blug told the Saarbrücker Zeitung.

Hesse

There is a ban on fireworks in the old town of Fulda, as the city of

Hesschenschau announced

.

For safety reasons, firecrackers are prohibited wherever the safety distance cannot be maintained.

There is also a ban on fireworks on the cathedral square.

The usual regulations apply in Marburg.

Throughout the upper town including the area around the castle, in the castle park, at the Lutheran churchyard in front of the Elisabeth Church.

In Darmstadt, there is a ban on Luisenplatz on the Mathildenhöhe.

Thuringia

So far, apart from the applicable nationwide fireworks regulations, no firecracker bans are known.

Baden-Wuerttemberg

In the cities of Ulm, Heidelberg, Karlsruhe and Freiburg, no fireworks bans have been planned beyond the federal laws, as the cities

informed the

SWR .

In Tübingen, firecrackers are banned in the old town.

Fireworks in the old town were also banned in previous years to protect the historic city center from possible damage.

Stuttgart is also planning a fireworks ban.

In coordination with the police, there should be a ban on firecrackers on the Schlossplatz.

"The palace square was overcrowded, firecrackers were shot off uncontrollably, individuals were attacked and there were sexual assaults," said a city spokeswoman for the

dpa

.

Bavaria

On New Year's Eve in Munich, among other things, there are no fireworks within the Mittlerer Ring.

In Nuremberg, too, the previous fireworks ban zones in the area around the main market and around the Kaiserburg will remain.

This is intended to serve “for the safety of the crowds of people there and of legally protected buildings”, as the

dpa

learned.

A ban on firecrackers on New Year's Eve will also apply to Regensburg's old town.

This is to protect monuments such as the cathedral and sensitive facilities, as a spokeswoman for the city explained.

In Augsburg, gunfire should not be fired in the immediate vicinity of so-called "protected objects", as the regulatory department announced.
