The load on the Pöckinger Hindenburgstraße can hardly be influenced.

Traffic has not increased, however, according to a census.

Traffic planner Christian Fahnberg considers the situation on the way to school to be “madness”.

Pöcking

– The traffic load on the Pöckinger Hindenburgstraße has not changed significantly in the past five years.

Heavy goods traffic can hardly be reduced.

In short, that is the conclusion of a traffic observation by the planning office of Christian Fahnberg from Planegg.

The traffic planner presented the results of his observations on October 25th to the Pöckinger building and environmental committee.

As part of the integrated urban development concept, the federal government for nature conservation had requested measures to reduce the traffic load on Hindenburgstrasse.

In order to improve the safety of the children on the way to elementary school, the conservationists had suggested that the road be closed to heavy goods traffic.

As reported, the road traffic authorities and the police had ruled out such a closure.

Reason: The Hindenburgstraße is the only unrestricted cross connection between the state road on the western shore of Lake Starnberg and the B 2 for heavy goods traffic.

Traffic planner Fahnberg sees no great opportunities to relieve the road.

Its latest census confirmed that traffic levels have stagnated since 2017.

Five years ago, 3,400 traffic movements were noted, this year there were 3,050. "That's not significant," said Fahnberg.

He described the decrease in traffic at the junction of Hindenburgstrasse and Hauptstrasse by 507 movements from 2019 to 2022 as the corona effect.

The proportion of heavy goods traffic on the day of observation was between 2.5 and 6.4 percent, depending on the time of day.

Half of the heavy-duty traffic is made up of regional buses.

A bottleneck for heavy goods traffic is the curve from Hindenburgstrasse to Hauptstrasse.

Longer road trains regularly end up on the sidewalk when turning right.

Fahnberg suggested moving back the support beams in front of the traffic lights.

"I don't dare to propose to you" his idea of directing heavy goods traffic from Hindenburgstraße to the left in the direction of the Pöcking Süd junction and from there to the north.

This shifts the load locally and leads to a significant increase in the route.

Videos show how bad it is for school children

The Hindenburgstraße as a way to school is definitely a problem for the traffic planner.

He made this clear by means of video recordings.

The planned footpath and cycle path through the meadow between Feldafinger Straße and the elementary school will bring significant relief, said Fahnberg.

"It's crazy," the expert commented on the video sequences of the large number of so-called parents' taxis on the way to and from the elementary school.

When asked by Green Party Councilor Hans-Christoph von Gronau whether an intelligent traffic light system could defuse the problem area for heavy goods traffic on the hilltop above the Hotel Villa Sisi, planner Fahnberg replied: "I can vividly imagine that." With an intelligent solution meant from Gronau a traffic light solution that switches to red if there is a risk of heavy goods vehicles meeting at this bottleneck.

On site, one must also take care of a solution for another problem in this area.

Vehicles parked in front of the hotel often protruded onto the sidewalk.

This is a violation of the road traffic regulations and represents a safety risk for pedestrians, explained Fahnberg.

That cannot be solved at the green table.
