Following the MTR train derailment accident on the Tsuen Wan Line last month, this Monday (5th) there was another train decoupling on the Tseung Kwan O Line, resulting in a serious accident of "slamming the card". The government requested the MTR to submit a preliminary report today (8th) .
Li Jiarun, director of train operations of the MTR, said that the buffer of the coupler was loosened on the day of the incident, which also lengthened the passage above.
He continued that the train was stopped immediately after the sensor detected the problem. After the investigation, it was found that the coupler was still fastened, but the buffer had been loosened.
As for why the above situation occurs, MTR is still studying with the supplier of the device.

The Tseung Kwan O Line resumed service at around 12:30 noon on the same day.
The MTR pointed out that ten rows of 250 shuttle bus services had been suspended that day. Li Jiayun once again apologized to the public for the incident on behalf of the MTR, and thanked the public for their understanding.

He also explained that after the engineering personnel inspected the train, the train involved in the accident was connected to the sixth and seventh coupler buffers, and there was a "device failure" because the device connected to the trains had "buffering" in addition to the couplers. "Device" belongs to the part that connects two trucks, and its main function is to make the train run more smoothly.
However, on the day of the incident, the buffer of the coupler was loosened, which eventually lengthened the upper passage, and the sensor immediately stopped the train after detecting the problem. After the investigation, it was found that the coupler was still fastened, but the buffer was no longer Loosen, as to why the above situation occurs, we are still studying with the supplier of the device.

Li Jiarun pointed out that in the future, he will continue to cooperate with suppliers in several aspects of investigation to understand the cause of the accident, including a comprehensive inspection of the cause of the operation, materials, maintenance, and environment.
He also emphasized that the supplier has confirmed that the same type of device is safe, and MTR will submit a detailed report to the government within two months and continue to communicate with government departments.
Lee Ka-run also pointed out that in the past, he has been maintaining according to the supplier's guidelines, so he will continue to investigate the cause of the accident with the supplier's representative who just came to Hong Kong from other places.
Li Jiarun pointed out that the cause of the accident was that the buffer of the hook between the sixth and seventh trucks at that time was loosened, and the cause still needs to be investigated.
