On the occasion of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, and under the title “Hands, Hands, Words and Action,” a march and a regular bike race were held today around the Hama Castle, in which people with disabilities and healthy people participated.

52 male and female students and a number of athletes participated in the sporting event launched by the Syrian Society for Social Development in cooperation with the United Nations Population Fund in Syria, the Executive Committee of the General Sports Federation, the Police Club in Hama, and Al-Amal School for People with Disabilities.

In statements to SANA reporter, Rasha Ibrahim, the event supervisor from Al-Amal School, explained that the sports activity witnessed a wide participation of people with disabilities and healthy athletes and Syrian champions in some individual games such as boxing, kickboxing and running, noting that the race was organized in the vicinity of Hama Castle in two stages, punctuated by performances. An individual athlete added to the event an atmosphere of entertainment and enthusiasm.

Raneem Warda, a representative of the Syrian Society for Social Development, stated that the sporting event comes as part of the 16-day campaign to combat gender-based violence, which is a global campaign that will continue during the period between November 25 and December 10, and includes the organization of many events and activities that are dedicated to Human rights, especially of persons with disabilities, and their integration with their healthy peers in society.

The contestant Abd al-Rahman Othman, a person with a disability who participated in the bicycle race, confirmed that he witnessed an atmosphere of competition and enthusiasm by all the participants, while Muhammad Kazkaz, the participant in the walk, saw that this activity would enhance the sense of self-confidence among the participants with disabilities while raising their morale and encouraging them to exercise. Walking sport.

Hala Jabr, a participant in the bicycle race from the Hama Police Club, indicated the importance of their participation by students with disabilities in this event as an affirmation of their rights and support in practicing their hobbies and developing their talents in various fields.
