The family of a 48-year-old Latino inmate has accused officials at the Texas jail where he was being held of causing the serious injuries that keep him hospitalized in a coma, reported the NBC affiliate television station in Houston.
Randall Kallinen, a lawyer for the family of
Adael González García,
said Thursday during a press conference that Harris County jail guards "used force" against his client and caused him severe injuries.
The family demands to see the images from the security cameras of the prison to know exactly how González suffered the injuries.
“The family wants answers.
The community wants answers.
We do not want to release criminals, we just want those tests, ”she said, according to the cited outlet.

According to the Harris County Sheriff's Office, Gonzalez was booked into the county jail on November 23 after being arrested for drunk driving.
One day later, at around 9:00 pm (local time), he apparently fell from a bunk in his cell and suffered a facial injury, for which he was treated at the prison clinic.
On Nov. 25, when he was released, jail staff told the sheriff's office that a struggle broke out between him and officers as he was moved to another cell.
At some point, according to the official version, the man
fell headlong to the ground
and was taken to Ben Taub Hospital, where he has remained in a coma ever since.

“He didn't fall out of bed. That's the stupidest excuse, I'm sorry,”
Marisol Tobar, Gonzalez's stepdaughter, told ABC News in Houston.
"I do not think so.
I don't think she fell on her face.
Right now he is between life and death.”
The League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC), a pro-immigrant organization, says that 27 prisoners have died in the United States so far this year, a record number.
The sheriff's office said Walker County withdrew the warrant for Gonzalez's arrest, meaning he is no longer in custody.
He added that the incident is under investigation.
