"I hope there will be no political recovery": Karim Rissouli's fears if France face Morocco at the World Cup

FIGARO LIVE – The journalist presents a new investigation by “The Factory of Lies” devoted to Russian propaganda, this Sunday, December 11, in prime time on France 5. Guest of “Buzz TV”, he takes the opportunity to discuss the World Cup in Qatar.

TV MAGAZINE.

- How are French viewers directly affected by Russian propaganda?

Karim RISSOULI.

-

We are all concerned, regardless of the country in which we live.

The world champion of "The Factory of Lies" has been called Vladimir Putin for ten years.

We realize that we are all manipulated, without necessarily knowing it, by trolls.

They are human beings hidden in buildings in Saint Petersburg or Moscow.

They create false information which will then be relayed on our social networks.

Influencers, even political figures, will sometimes echo it.

Have you ever believed in spite of yourself in false information?

I have been doing this job for a good fifteen years and I think that I had never really opened my eyes to the reality of the Russian regime.

When we put end to end what has happened for ten or twelve years, we realize that we may have been naive.

The production of false information in Russia is a phenomenon that is common knowledge.

What new aspects does your investigation present?

I learned things.

For example, in 2017 protests erupted in Catalonia between pro-independence supporters and those who wanted to remain under Madrid rule.

I learned that the Russians had offered their help to those who defended the autonomy of this region by offering an army of 10,000 men and several hundred million dollars.

And we also learn how robots produce false information for Spanish or Catalan social networks.

These publications create confusion and fuel conflict.

Whether in France, the United States, Syria or elsewhere, the Russians, under the impetus of the Kremlin and Vladimir Putin, are trying to use our flaws to divide Western society.

"We have proven that we can have peaceful debate on television"

Karim Rissouli, guest of "Buzz TV".

What subject will the next issue of "The Factory of Lies" focus on?

We are working on it but we will come back to the Johnny Depp - Amber Heard affair.

You will see that social networks had a very important impact on the trial.

How does “C ce soir”, the meeting you play from Monday to Thursday at 10:45 p.m., differ from other decryption talk shows?

We wanted to create a debate show where the clash is not the heart of the program.

There are sometimes antagonisms, people who arrive with strong opinions but my objective is that we are all more intelligent at the end of the discussion than at the beginning.

The sterile “for or against” binary side does not interest me.

What I like the most is when a guest changes his mind live because he hadn't thought about such and such an aspect.

It's like a big dinner with six or seven people where intellectuals, politicians, journalists or artists meet.

It has been proven that the

On December 6, Morocco qualified for the quarter-finals of the FIFA World Cup.

An image where you are happy circulated a lot on social networks...

I was not happy, I was in heaven!

In truth, I couldn't watch... I watched the first 80 minutes and arrived on set.

When I learn that Morocco has won its match, I am in rehearsal, just before the arrival of the guests.

I could have gone to the control room to see the last moments of the match, but I'm so superstitious when it comes to football that I thought they were going to lose if I watched the end of the match.

If Morocco and France meet in the semi-finals, which team will you support?

Frankly, I don't choose between my father, who is Moroccan, and my mother, who is French.

I have nothing to lose!

I passed avenue des Champs-Élysées on December 6, and I saw that the Moroccans had already won their World Cup.

If this country reaches the semi-final, it will be a first in history for an African team.

I don't choose... I will be happy and sad at the same time, no matter what.

On the other hand, more seriously, if there is a France-Morocco, I especially hope that it will go well and that there will be no political recovery.

"I received racist and violent messages..."

Karim Rissouli, guest of "Buzz TV".

Why are you afraid of this?

You evoke this image where we see that I am happy that Morocco is qualified.

I received adorable comments but I also read racist and violent messages asking me why I am not going to live in Morocco if I am that happy.

This climate exists in France, so I really hope that it will go well and that it will not benefit the wrong people.
