A former senior police officer sent an unusual message today (Friday) in a WhatsApp group of retired commissioners and superintendents. This, a day after the chairman of Otzma Yehudit Itamar Ben Gabir distributed the memorandum of law to amend the police ordinance, according to which unprecedented powers over the police will be transferred to him and the government.
The senior posted a "concern notice" to the police and announced the date of the funeral.
"Shocked and pained. We announce with deep sorrow and somber grief the untimely passing of the late Israel Police," it said.
Visits of condolence by the loved ones of Zecharah will be held at the national headquarters, Bar Lev street, Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood, Jerusalem.
Her sons, her daughters and her lovers."

According to Ben Gabir's proposal, the commissioner will be subordinated to the minister in charge and the police to the entire government. In this way, the independence of the commissioner is dramatically reduced and he will be subordinated "to the minister's policy outline and general principles".
As part of the coalition agreements, Likud agreed to grant Ben Gabir the expanded powers, and it was agreed to pass the regulating legislation even before the government was sworn in.
The proposal partially excludes the investigation division, and states that the minister will not have authority in regards to the opening, management, closing of investigations and specific cases - but does give him powers over the police in "policy matters in the fields of investigations, case handling and prosecution".
Thus, the minister is given significant influence over the policies of the Investigations Division, which also investigates incumbent politicians.
