Andrew Morton caused a scandal in 1992 with his Diana biography "Diana - Her True Story".

If he has his way, the royals can sleep peacefully.

He does not attach great importance to Prince Harry's memoir "Spare".

New York – While Royal fans around the world are busy with the Netflix documentary "Harry & Meghan" that started on December 8, Prince Harry (38) is already starting the next project.

On January 10, 2023, his memoir entitled “Spare” will be published by Penguin Random House.

But when it comes to Diana biographer Andrew Morton (69), the British royal family has nothing to fear.

Andrew Morton on 'Spare': 'Harry has every right to write his memoir'

In 1992, the biography of author Andrew Morton on Diana Spencer (36, † 1997), the then Princess of Wales, was published with "Diana - Her True Story".

The biography became a worldwide bestseller and shocked the public with details about Diana's bulimia and Charles' (74) affair with Camilla Parker Bowles (75).

After Diana's accidental death in 1997, Morton revealed that his previously undisclosed source was Diana herself.

"Harry has every right to write his memoir," Andrew Morton told Fox News Digital.

"He's not the first royal to do so, and he won't be the last." Prince Harry is in prominent company with his memoir, Spare, Morton said.

“It goes back to Edward VIII.

He wrote 'A King's Story' in 1951, which became an international bestseller, like this one.

Red.] it will also be.

And it angered the royal family.

Diana co-wrote 'Her True Story' with me - international bestseller, angered the royal family.

[Former] Prince Charles, the Prince of Wales, co-wrote his book with Jonathan Dimbleby criticizing his parents.

That was a big book and again it upset the royal family.”

Andrew Morton's Diana biography in The Crown

Also in the successful Netflix series "The Crown" the Diana biography "Diana - Her True Story" by Andrew Morton is a topic.

In the 5th season, an episode shows how the scandalous biography that shook the British monarchy in 1992 and ultimately made it inevitable that Charles and Diana officially announced their separation at the end of 1992.

"It's breathtaking and it took me back all those years.

I don't say that very often, but I was touched," Andrew Morton told Good Morning America of The Crown's portrayal of the origin story.

Diana biographer Andrew Morton: Prince Harry not relevant enough

Although Andrew Morton concedes:

"Harry's book will give cause for concern and make headlines worldwide." But the monarchy must also cope with this, emphasizes the former Diana biographer.

"It will not destroy the institution."

Prince Harry is simply not important enough to actually harm the British royal family, Morton is sure.

"If the institution is so weak that it can't stand a ghost-written book by a younger member, then it's probably not worth keeping," the author says.

"I mean, honestly, a book written by a future Queen, Diana, and a book by the future King Charles are much more relevant and important than a book of what is he now?

Sixth in line to the throne?”
