The designated Minister of National Security responded to the publications about Beharev-Miara's opposition to the law that would authorize him to outline policy for the police • "I find it difficult to understand how the ombudsman rushed to establish a position in just one day" • On the Commissioner: "I do not want him to resign, we will work together " • "The police budget went to waste"

The designated minister of national security, MK Itamar Ben Gabir, responded today (Saturday) to publications about the opposition of the ombudsman to the law that would authorize the minister of national security to outline a policy for the police.

"I find it difficult to understand how the Speaker rushed to determine a position on a bill that was submitted only on Thursday.

The same prosecutor who allowed Amer Bar-Lev to make political decisions in the Ministry of Internal Security, and gave her hand to every predatory and illegal move promoted by the government, such as the appointment of the Chief of Staff and the approval of political agreements during an election period, and more, managed to form a negative position in just one day against my bill , claimed Ben Gvir.

"The purpose of the proposal," added the designated minister, "is the empowerment of Israeli democracy, and the return of the police to act according to the will of the people. This is a very disappointing statement by the ombudsman, which calls into question her professional positions."

Regarding his relationship with Commissioner Kobi Shabtai, Ben Gvir told "Israel Today" that "I don't want the Commissioner to resign, we will work together and we will have a good working relationship. I don't blame Kobi (Shabtai), for years the police budget went to waste" .

Ben Gvir is required for the police budget, which Commissioner Shabtai opposes transferring to his responsibility and said, "Unfortunately, as much as I dug into the police budget - it went to waste.

That's why it's important to me, and it's my job, to fight so that there is money for the salaries of police officers, to build police stations and to strengthen the technological means, this is to restore personal security to citizens."

"Politics will not interfere"

As I recall, yesterday (Friday) the commissioner sent a letter in which he addressed the police and asked to calm the spirits.

I am alert to the public discourse and make it clear in the first person that the spirits of politics will not penetrate the Israel Police as they have not penetrated until today."

Shabtai added in his letter and said that "the Israel Police operated under all the governments that arose in Israel from all ends of the political spectrum, and we always knew to continue to operate on the basis of professional, state and practical standards, while we as public representatives see the good of the public at all levels before our eyes. We will stand guard over In order to ensure that the Israel Police will continue to be strong, and that its independence will not be compromised. This is our duty as police officers. This is my personal duty as Commissioner of the Israel Police, and I intend to fulfill it."
