Bad events such as the flood disaster in the Ahr Valley, the war in Ukraine or, more recently, more and more cyber attacks are causing us to rethink our thinking.

The municipality of Berglern is now taking on a pioneering role, at least for most of the municipalities in the district, because the Oberdinger were, as reported, a lot faster: they created an emergency concept for the blackout.

Berglern – When the deputy commander of the Berglern fire brigade, Tobias Venus, presented the paper to the municipal council on Thursday evening, Mayor Anton Scherer emphasized that under no circumstances should panic be spread: “We only want something if something is.”

The concept is based on the experiences of the deputy commander in his capacity as a professional firefighter and volunteer at the Moosburg association Navis, who was known to have been involved in the flood disaster in the Ahr valley.

The concept makes statements about who is on the management staff in an emergency, and who has to take on which tasks.

Scherer, the two deputy mayors, commander and deputy of the fire brigade and one or the other municipal council would be responsible in this case.

Then there would be the building yard manager and, depending on the situation, specialist advisors.

Public relations, i.e. alerting the public as quickly as possible, is particularly important for Venus.

In addition, emergency shelters should be predefined.

Here Venus named the school, the sports center and the kindergarten.

A manager would then have to be appointed for each of these accommodations.

As reported, the community has made advances in terms of equipment for the fire brigade and procured a powerful emergency generator.

At the children's home Die Strolche, a possibility for feeding is already prepared.

Technically, the fire brigade would be able to supply the entire school complex, and according to the paper, a feed-in option is in the works.

According to Venus, another feed option should be provided at the sports home.

The reason for this: "There is a canteen kitchen that could be used to supply people who are housed in the school, for example." Such a feed option does not exist in this building.

In the short consultation, weaknesses in the previous planning also became clear.

In this way, the possible emergency shelters are concentrated in one area of the community.

Should this be affected by the catastrophe, all the options mentioned would suddenly cease to exist.

The problem: Elsewhere the municipality does not have its own buildings.

However, Scherer emphasized that this problem had been recognized.

A coordination meeting at the level of the administrative community has not yet been able to take place due to time constraints, and a paper on this subject is still expected from the district.

Scherer also provided information on this when asked by the committee.

Among the interested listeners was Franz Ganslmaier, the responsible speaker at the Wartenberg store.

The paper from the commander's office of the fire station is not yet complete.

So there was nothing to decide.

It was just a status report.

However, Venus received friendly applause for the preliminary work he had done in his free time.
