In December, pensioners will finally receive the 300 euro energy flat rate.
But what to do if the money doesn't end up in the account?
Hamburg – With the federal government's first energy flat rate, the pensioners went away empty-handed.
But the government improved the third relief package and also promised pensioners a payment of 300 euros as an energy allowance.
The money is to be paid out in 2022.
By December 15, the energy flat rate should land on pensioners' accounts.
But what should people do if the money doesn't automatically end up in the account?
Relief from the federal government: | Energy allowance for pensioners |
Authorized: | Anyone who is drawing a current pension from the statutory pension insurance scheme on December 1, 2022 |
Height: | 300 Euro |
Payout: | Until December 15, 2022, in exceptional cases 2023 |
Energy flat rate for pensioners not received: In this case, the 300 euros will not be credited to the account until 2023
If the energy flat rate is not automatically credited to your account by December 15, there can be several reasons.
People who draw their pension for the first time at the end of December will only be paid the energy flat rate at the beginning of 2023.
According to the German pension insurance, this has technical reasons.
When will the energy allowance for pensioners be paid out?
The energy flat rate for pensioners of 300 euros will be paid out in 2022.
By December 15th, the money should end up in the account of the beneficiary.
Exception: people who receive a pension payment for the first time in December.
These pensioners will not receive the energy lump sum until the beginning of 2023. And another important note: the energy lump sum for pensioners will not be made together with the regular pension payment, but as an individual transfer.
So if you don't receive your first pension payment until December, you'll have to be patient.
But even in this case, the payout is automatically credited to the account.
Retirees don't have to do anything else.
If you are asked by SMS or email to enter your credit card details in order to receive the energy flat rate, it is always a scam.
Never reply to such emails and never enter your account information online.
With the energy flat rate and the gas help, scammers are no longer just targeting pensioners.
Anyone who is entitled to an old-age, reduced earning capacity or survivor’s pension from the statutory pension insurance or the old-age pension scheme for farmers as of December 1, 2022 will receive the flat-rate energy price.

To which account is the energy allowance for pensioners paid out?
The energy lump sum for pensioners is automatically paid into the account to which the regular pension payments are also made.
A payment of the 300 euros to a different account is not possible.
Energy flat rate for pensioners: How much money actually ends up in the account?
Even if the energy allowance for pensioners ends up in the account of the beneficiary on time, there is a catch.
Because the payment of the 300 euros from the third relief package is taxable, as is the energy allowance for employees.
The following applies: the lower the pension, the lower the tax deduction.
And that means that the less taxes have to be paid, the more of the energy allowance for retirees is left over in the end.
According to the German pension insurance, anyone who stays below the allowance of 10,347 euros does not have to pay taxes on the energy flat-rate for pensioners.
