Israel Railways' announcement from today (Saturday) about the theft of 300 meters of communication cables in the southern region has once again raised fears that train traffic will be partially suspended.

The latest incident is the latest in a series of failures and omissions that happened in the span of a few months, which prove how easy it is to disable the huge public transportation system.

In the railway's announcement today, it was stated that hundreds of meters of communication cables were cut and stolen from the railway's signaling system in the Lahavim area.

This caused great damage and disabled the signaling and traffic management systems of the train in the southern region.

As a result, there was concern that train traffic between Beer Sheva and the north of the country would not be resumed on Saturday night, due to the extent of the damage and the necessary repair work.

However, a few hours later it was announced that the damage repairs had been completed, and the train in the south would operate according to the planned schedule.

We also informed the train that the guarding of the tracks in the south will be increased and security cameras will be added.

About two weeks ago, train traffic was stopped all over the country, due to an unusual technical malfunction in the signaling system responsible for controlling the trains.

Experts from the company worked to fix the problem.

It was later announced that the train crews overcame it, and train traffic was resumed as of midnight that Saturday - including the Tel Aviv-Natav-Jerusalem line.

This case came about two months after an unusual security incident in which a 20-year-old Israeli Arab placed an obstacle on the railway tracks between Acre and Karmiel during Rosh Hashanah.

According to the suspicion, he took advantage of the shutdown of the track due to the holiday, and placed an engineered accessory, which was apparently designed to cause a train to derail on its journey at the end of the holiday.

There were no casualties and no damage was done.

The suspect was arrested, and the Shin Bet was involved in the investigation of the suspect and a gag order was issued on the rest of the investigation details.
