Today (10th) morning, a fire broke out on the platform of Hung Fai Building, Dundas Street, Mong Kok. Thick smoke swept through the air, and there were multiple explosions. It took more than an hour to put out the fire. What was seen at the scene, the scrap iron brackets were burned on the platform, and the exterior walls of the building were seriously smoked.

It was seen at the scene that the scrap iron brackets were burnt on the platform, the exterior walls of the building were severely blackened, and the window frames of the units of the low-floor residents near the involved platform were burned to the point of deformation.


After the accident, Mr. Liang, a resident of the platform, pointed out that some residents of the building littered garbage and cigarette butts on the platform, so he built canopies by himself and cleaned them regularly. Unexpectedly, it was still difficult to prevent the fire from happening.

He also recalled the situation of the fire this morning. He was surprised to see the flames on the top of the canopy, but the fire was not too large. He tried to open the fire hose next to the elevator to fight the fire, but the water in the hose was weak and he could not extinguish it by himself, and the fire eventually spread.

Mr. Liang has lived in the building involved for 4 years and is one of the residents of the platform where the fire broke out.

He pointed out that today he heard a loud noise from the outside in the room, so he ran out the door and saw that the roof was on fire. Mr. Liang yelled for help, and immediately notified the security "Fire! Fire!", and then pressed the fire alarm and called the police.

He tried to open the fire hose next to the elevator to put out the fire by himself. Unexpectedly, the water from the fire hose was very weak. In case of danger of fire spreading.

Soon after, the firefighters rushed to the scene and dragged their throats to rescue them.

Mr. Liang pointed out that the platform involved was more than 4,000 square feet. Before he entered the occupation, the platform had stored many boxes of sundries and covered it with green canvas.

He also criticized the residents at the above site for frequently throwing garbage cigarette butts or clothes to dry, so he built the canopy by himself and cleaned the canopy garbage once a week.

There are also notices posted in the building warning residents not to litter.

After the fire was brought under control, the firefighters held a press conference and pointed out that there were a lot of sundries on the platform involved, and firefighters needed to remove the sundries to find the source of the fire.

As for whether the location of the fire is an illegal building and the cause of the fire remains to be investigated.
