Fresh money for the maintenance of the Stalag monument: the foundation and the state office provide funding

There is a new movement in the work to commemorate the Moosburg Stalag VII A: Now other bodies want to provide funds for the preservation of monuments.

- The basic inventory of the former guard barracks of the prisoner of war camp Stalag VII A on Moosburg's Schlesierstraße can be started: The German Foundation for Monument Protection (DSD) and the Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation each want to make 17,000 euros available for this, as the DSD is now doing in a press release stated.

This preliminary investigation is a necessary condition for all further work to preserve the monument.

The DSD had already made a binding commitment to support it at a panel discussion in Moosburg in May, and the relevant application has now been submitted by the municipality.

As those responsible write, the DSD had "already offered the mayor of Moosburg support for maintenance measures on all buildings of the former prisoner of war camp".

There is also money for the Sabathiel barracks

The private Bonn monument protection foundation wants to share the costs of the report with the Bavarian State Office for the Preservation of Monuments.

In the state office, a comprehensive catalog of requirements has been drawn up for the preparation of the study in the past few weeks.

The report is the prerequisite for future renovations and uses of the three listed warehouse buildings, which are unique in Bavaria.

In addition to the "extraordinarily well-preserved guard quarters" according to the DSD, the ruins of the Sabathiel prisoner barracks are also listed buildings - named after their post-war owner.

Only recently it became known that the district of Upper Bavaria is also providing financial support for Moosburg's monument work: in November, the culture committee awarded 5,000 euros in funding for the static security of the Sabathiel barracks.

Most recently, the former crew quarters on Schlesierstraße served as accommodation for people from socially disadvantaged backgrounds and the homeless.

Numerous traces have been preserved of all the different uses and users of the camp buildings.

"The buildings are not only a reminder of the criminal regime of the Nazis and the world war they triggered, but also stand for the emergence of the democratic community in the Federal Republic of Germany and in Bavaria and for the development of the city of Moosburg since 1948," emphasizes the foundation.

"Here you can encounter the biographies of numerous Moosburg citizens up to the present."

Good to know

The Moosburg memorial is one of more than 530 objects that the DSD, according to its own information, was able to promote thanks to its sponsors, the income from its trust foundations and the funds from the “GlücksSpirale” in Bavaria alone.
