Hervé Marseille comes out of the AFP building, Place de la Bourse in Paris, where he has just had his portrait taken.

“They only had baby pictures of me on animal skins,” he says with a mischievous smile.

At 68, the president of the Centrist Union (UC) group in the Senate, who was mayor of Meudon (Hauts-de-Seine) for 18 years, finally takes the light.

This Saturday, December 10, he will take over from Jean-Christophe Lagarde, who has just been sentenced to ten months in prison suspended for embezzlement of public funds, as president of the UDI.
