Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov made it clear today that the idea of establishing a gas union between Russia, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan does not target third parties and does not include any geopolitical game.
Sputnik quoted Lavrov as saying during an interview with the Kazakh “News 24” channel: “Currently, the initiative to form a tripartite project is being discussed, on gas between Russia, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan… Analysts, especially in the West, immediately talked about a political or geopolitical game… Not There is no game here.”
Lavrov added, “Russia, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan are neighboring countries, and they have a common system for gas transportation, and they are interested in ensuring uninterrupted gas supplies, taking into account the peak seasonal consumption,” describing the relationship between Russia and Kazakhstan as “an alliance and we always extend a helping hand to each other, and we show understanding for the decisions that are made.” To be taken in Astana and Moscow, where we closely coordinate our activities at the regional level and in the international arena.
Lavrov pointed out that “despite all the sanctions imposed by the West in violation of all the rules of international law and the principles of the market economy, our trade volume has not been affected. As for the Eurasian Economic Union, its indicators remained in the first ten months of this year at the level of the last period of 2021, and even became a little higher.”
