2022 becomes 2023 and that is celebrated on New Year's Eve.

Whether it's a big party, a classical concert or watching the fireworks with a blanket and Prosecco - Munich has something for everyone.

Munich - The transition into the new year 2023 on New Year's Eve is celebrated in a variety of ways in Munich.

But all the festivities have one thing in common: they say goodbye to the old year 2022 and finally welcome the new year 2023 without restrictions.

However, the wide range of events means that Munich residents are spoiled for choice.

Fireworks in the sky over Munich

Of course, there are great vantage points for all fireworks enthusiasts.

From these, the New Year's sky can be observed without being involved yourself.

The Theresienwiese, especially a place at the Bavaria statue, offers a comprehensive view of the Munich city area.

If that is still too low for you, you can try your luck on the Olympiaberg.

Alternatively, the Monopteros in the English Garden offers a good view of the light effects from the many rockets and fountains that will illuminate Munich's night sky.

Or you can visit the Gerner Bridge over the Nymphenburg Canal and welcome the new year with the local residents.

The best way to start the new year: a big party

Anyone who feels like partying just before the New Year is in good hands at Tollwood's New Year's Eve party.

DJs and live bands ensure the right atmosphere.

And punctually at midnight the traditional midnight waltz begins.

If you prefer something exclusive, you can celebrate the New Year on the Praterinsel.

The tickets are expensive, but the guests get an all-inclusive program including beamer projections and fireworks.

Live music, a rustic atmosphere and festive delicacies await the guests of the Augustiner Keller on December 31 - but only until 11 p.m.

Then the party can go on to clubbing in P1.

Dress code: black tie or smart dress.

If you're more into techno and underground music, drop by Blitz Nightclub, Bahnwärter Thiel or Rote Sonne.

Enjoy the transition thoughtfully and sensually

A trumpet and organ concert will take place further away from the hustle and bustle of celebrations in the Schwabing Church of the Redeemer.

Brass player Luca Chiché and church musician Michael Grill show their skills there.

Archbishop Reinhard Cardinal Marx will hold the New Year's sermon and end-of-year prayers in the Frauenkirche and carefully prepare the visitors for the transition to 2023 - alternatively, they can be followed from home via live stream.

Under the motto Virtuosité - Spiritualité, the Munich organ professor Michael Hartmann elicits euphonious tones from his instrument at a concert in the Bürgersaalkirche - seconded by trumpet and soprano.

Every year again: ban on firecrackers within the Mittlerer Ring

Even if the party mood of the people of Munich is difficult to curb: the district administration department of the state capital has repeatedly issued a ban on private fireworks to protect residents in densely populated areas.

Within the middle ring, no "firecrackers" - as the press spokesman for the department Julien Chauve calls it - may be set off.

That includes all the fireworks "which are all about a loud bang".

Rockets, volcanoes and fountains should still be allowed.

Munich is not alone with the limited ban on fireworks, other cities also have similar rules.
