France advances at the pace of champion by the hand of Mbappé 1:04
(CNN) --
Reigning champions France keep their quest for a second successive 2022 FIFA World Cup title alive after defeating England 2-1 on Saturday at the Al Bayt Stadium in Al Khor, Qatar.
Aurélien Tchouaméni opened the scoring in the first half for 'Les Bleus', with a tremendous shot from outside the area that went past the English goalkeeper, Jordan Pickford.
England were awarded a second-half penalty after Tchouameni tripped Bukayo Saka in the box.
It was the opportunity for Harry Kane's goal to tie the game.
With that goal, England captain Kane tied Wayne Rooney's record of 53 goals in the country's history.
Despite the relentless English attack, Olivier Giroud found a way to put Les Bleus ahead with a header from Antoine Griezmann's cross.

England had a great chance to level the game again after being awarded a second penalty, but this time Harry Kane missed the penalty kick just over the arc.
