Similarly, the Russian Foreign Ministry announced that 200 Canadian citizens, including high-ranking officials and parliamentarians, would be banned from entering its territory.

Sputnik quoted the Foreign Ministry as saying in a statement: “In response to the personal sanctions imposed by the Canadian capital, Ottawa, against Russian officials, including military personnel, judges, law enforcement officials and community activists, and pursuant to the principle of reciprocity, it was decided to prevent 200 Canadian citizens from entering the country.”

The Russian Foreign Ministry also summoned Canada's ambassador to Moscow, Alison Locklear, in response to the Canadian Foreign Ministry's unjustified summoning of the Russian ambassador to Ottawa, Oleg Stepanov.

The Canadian authorities, in a new escalating step, announced yesterday the imposition of sanctions on a number of Russian ministries, departments and committees.
