The German NGO Help has announced the release of a German hostage, after more than four years of captivity in the Sahel region of Africa.
“Our colleague Jörg Lange, after more than four and a half years, can return to his family,” the agency quoted the French press agency, Bianca Kaltschmidt, director general of the organization, as saying in a statement, adding: “His condition is good, given the circumstances, and he was returned to Germany in a military plane.”
Gunmen on motorcycles kidnapped Jorge Lange on April 11, 2018 in western Niger, near Ayoro, in a border area with Mali that witnesses frequent terrorist attacks, and sold him after his kidnapping to the terrorist organization (ISIS).
At least four Western hostages, a Frenchman, an American, an Australian and a Romanian, are still being held in the Sahel region, according to statistics that include only those whose kidnapping was announced close to them or their country's government.
