Chief of the Belarusian General Staff Viktor Gulevich confirmed that the presence of Russian forces in Belarus is a strategic deterrent factor for the country.
Russia's RT channel quoted Gulevich as saying in a television interview that "the presence of Russia, the main ally of Belarus, contributes to ensuring the country's security and constitutes a strategic deterrent factor," noting that Belarus is more concerned with strengthening the security of its borders with Ukraine.
And the Belarusian Ministry of Defense announced in mid-October the arrival of the first batch of Russian soldiers to Belarus to join the joint regional group.
